As we draw closer to the end of the Year 2017, PLFA wishes all its players, officials and leadership a relaxed festive season. Coincidentally, PLFA also closes its financial books at the end of the month. So this is a end of the year in a true sense of the word.
PLFA started this year with a bang. We started off with a Prize Giving Ceremony for the 2015 season, ran pre-season tournament which resulted in 5 additional clubs joining the association, we had a successful Congress and started with the leagues in earnest, which concluded in October and November. We did have challenges after May particularly of leadership nature, causing a level of uncertainty and confusion at an operational level. But overall, 2017 was a better year than 2016 and years before. There were more gains than regression. That needs to be celebrated. And as we wish our members a relaxed festive season, it is in the backdrop of such successes.
We will certainly face the year 2018 with even more vigour, enthusiasm and sense of purpose. We truly shall become Africa's leaders in the Art and Science of football development and promotion at an LFA level.
As we close the year, and in line with out vision, we take inspiration from what happened at Liberia. George Weah, former football star both in Liberia and in Italy (AC Millan) has been voted President of Liberia after clinching 12 out of the 15 counties in the west African country. He succeeded over his opponent, a sitting Vice-president, a 73 year old Joseph Boakai, who has been the in that post for 12 years, and only got two counties.
Why are we taking inspiration from this?
PLFA understands that, according to its promotional vision, only up 5% of the players who register at one point of the other with the association we make it to profession football level in the next 3 to 5 years. If that is the case, what happens to the 90%? The association deliberately positions itself to ensure 360 degree development to all its players, officials and leaders to ensure that they are prepared to take up any challenge in the world. So through football, members will learn that they can be leaders anywhere, they can be bureaucrats anywhere, they can be technocrats anywhere, they be be anything, including become State President.
Whilst our position is more an 'either / or' approach, we must congratulate George Weah because he has been the best in football, and now he vows to be the best in his country's leadership. We take inspiration because there, it is proven possible even for us to pursue with vigor. We will prepare young people to be responsible and successful young adults through football.
Happy Holidays to All!!! from PLFA.
